New Hilux to be based on the same IMV body-on-frame platform Powered by the same 2.8L diesel engine with a 48V mild hybrid setup To get feature-loaded cabin
We informed you earlier that Toyota is fast tracking the India launch of its legendary lifestyle pickup truck - the all-new Toyota Hilux. The Pick-up truck was recently caught during its TV commercial shoot, and now we have its launch date. Scheduled to be launched on July 28, 2026, the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux is now a premium, tech-heavy model; however, it retains the body-on-frame chassis.

Featuring significantly revised styling, the new-gen Toyota Fortuner features the brand’s global “Tough X Agile” design philosophy. This lifestyle pickup truck now has a complete flat, upright nose highlighted by a bold, wide mesh-type grille. The front design shares resemblance with latest breed of Toyota’s global SUVs and pickups. Instead of standard branding, the new Hilux gets retro-styled, bold “TOYOTA” lettering across the centre.
The pickup gets a slimmer, angular multi-projector LED headlights with sharp boomerang-shaped DRLs, and pronounced, squared-off front fenders. At the back, the tailgate features heavy sheet-metal sculpting matched with distinct, wrap-around C-shaped LED taillight graphics.
It comes with all-new cabin inspired from the latest Land Cruiser Prado. The dashboard is dominated by a free-standing 12.3-inch Toyota Smart Connect infotainment unit and a 12.3-inch fully digital TFT driver’s display. The Double-Cab Hilux will be equipped with features like powered and ventilated front seats, an electronic parking brake (EPB) with auto hold, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and a cooled glovebox. It will also come with a comprehensive radar-and-camera-based driver assistance safety net with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist and others.

The new Hilux is powered by a tried & tested 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine paired to a 48V mild-hybrid electrical system. The hybrid setup offers a peak power and torque output of 201bhp and 500Nm, respectively. A six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox comes as a standard. The mild-hybrid setup assists the pickup in low-speed torque delivery while improving the fuel economy by roughly 5-8%. Power is transmitted through a 4WD layout equipped with an Electronic Differential Lock, Active Traction Control, and Toyota’s new Multi-Terrain Select with a live 360-degree Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM).
