Toyota plans five new locally made models in India by 2029 Fortuner, Land Cruiser FJ, Corolla Cross, Urban Cruiser Ebella, and EV MPV on the way TKM focuses on original Toyota products and expanding EV lineup
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is planning a major push in India. While the company has relied heavily on rebadged Maruti Suzuki models in recent years, it now plans to introduce five locally manufactured Toyota models by 2029.
All five models are expected to be over four metres in length, marking Toyota’s renewed focus on original products for the Indian market.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella will be closely related to the Maruti eVitara, sharing the same batteries, powertrains, and features. The standard-range version is expected to deliver around 440 km, while the extended-range variant could reach 543 km.
The design sets it apart with Toyota’s signature hammerhead theme. Sleek headlamps, an upright nose, and a cleaner front bumper give it a premium and polished look compared to its Maruti counterpart.

The third-generation Fortuner is expected in India during the first half of 2027. Developed in Thailand, it will feature a sharper, more aggressive exterior and a noticeably upmarket interior.
Key upgrades could include a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electronic power steering, ventilated front seats, Level 2 ADAS, and possibly a panoramic sunroof. Engine and transmission options are expected to remain the same as the current model.
Sometime in the second half of 2027 or in 2028, TKM will launch a new electric MPV related to the Maruti YMC. This MPV is expected to share batteries and powertrains with the Urban Cruiser Ebella and will compete with models like the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
The electric MPV is expected to offer a spacious three-row cabin, making it ideal for families looking for a practical and sustainable EV option.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is expected to launch in 2028 as a locally manufactured C-segment body-on-frame SUV, positioned below the Fortuner.
It will likely come with a 2TR-FE 2.7-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 164 hp and 245 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and part-time 4WD. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants are also expected.
The next-generation Corolla Cross is expected to arrive by 2029. Locally manufactured on an updated TNGA-C platform, the SUV could offer a seven-seat configuration in at least one variant.
Powertrain options are likely to include petrol and petrol-electric hybrid versions, allowing Toyota to compete strongly in the C-SUV segment.
