New 7-Seater Electric Cars Could Launch by 2027

Tata Safari EV and Maruti YMC launches expected by 2026 Toyota, VinFast and Tata preparing new family EVs Upcoming 7-seater EVs could offer 500+ km range

The Indian car market is slowly shifting towards larger electric family vehicles. While compact EVs are already becoming popular, several carmakers are now preparing 7-seater electric SUVs and MPVs for buyers who need more space and practicality.

Brands like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, and VinFast are all working on new electric models that could launch in India by 2027. Many of these upcoming vehicles are expected to offer premium features, long driving range, and spacious cabins for families.

Here’s a look at some upcoming 7-seater electric cars that could arrive in India soon.

1. Tata Safari EV

Tata Motors is already expanding its electric SUV lineup, and the Safari EV is expected to become one of its most important products.

The electric version of the Safari is likely to launch around the festive season this year. It is expected to retain the overall design of the regular Safari while adding EV-specific styling elements like a closed grille, aerodynamic wheels, and revised LED lighting.

The Safari EV could become Tata’s first three-row electric SUV and may come loaded with features like ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, connected tech, and even a triple-screen setup inspired by the Sierra EV concept.

Battery options could include 65 kWh and 75 kWh packs. The larger battery may offer a claimed range of over 620 km. Higher variants could also get an AWD setup.

2. Maruti Suzuki YMC

Maruti Suzuki is also preparing its first electric MPV for India, internally known as the YMC.

The upcoming model will be based on the same platform as the eVitara and is expected to launch by the end of 2026. It is likely to be larger than the Ertiga and could target buyers looking for a spacious electric family car.

The YMC is expected to offer both 5-seater and 7-seater layouts. Features could include captain seats, a large touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic glass roof, Level 2 ADAS, wireless charging, connected car technology, ventilated seats, and a 360-degree camera.

The MPV could use the same battery options as the eVitara. The larger 61 kWh battery pack may offer a claimed range of up to 543 km.

3. Toyota’s Version of the YMC

Toyota is also expected to launch its own version of the Maruti YMC electric MPV.

Both models are likely to share the same platform, battery packs, and powertrain options. However, Toyota will likely redesign the exterior to give the vehicle its own identity.

The electric MPV could help Toyota strengthen its future EV lineup in India, especially in the family car segment.

4. Tata Avinya X

Tata Motors is also working on the Avinya X, a premium electric crossover that could be offered in 5-, 6-, and 7-seater configurations.

The near-production version of the Avinya X has already been showcased, and the model is expected to arrive with a completely new premium experience.

The crossover may measure close to 5 metres in length and could come with advanced features and futuristic cabin technology not currently seen in Tata’s lineup.

The MPV could use a 60.13 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of around 517 km.
