Maruti Suzuki is preparing to two new SUVs in the Indian market this year. The company will first launch the new e Vitara electric SUV in the third quarter of 2025, before September. Another model will be a new 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara SUV, which has been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads.
The new Maruti Grand Vitara 7-Seater SUV will be launched towards the end of this year. A possible launch around October-November, Diwali season, can't be ignored. Spy images reveal that the SUV looks largely identical to the Grand Vitara; however, it will receive some design changes and more features inside the cabin.
The SUV's length and wheelbase will be increased to accommodate the third-row passenger seat. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki will also utilize the boot space for the last row. With all three-row in position, the SUV won't have a practical boot space. It is likely to be offered with two configurations - a 6-seat captain chair and a 7-seat with bench-type seat in second-row.
The new Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater SUV is likely to receive a newly designed front fascia, featuring a revised grille, new bumper and slightly tweaked headlamp. Other design changes could include new alloy wheels, tweaked tail-lights, extended side profile and new rear bumper.
Inside the cabin, the new 7-seater Grand Vitara will have a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit, new upholstery and a digital driver's display. In terms of features, the SUV will have a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, six airbags, ESC, and TPMS. The SUV will also receive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) Suite with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist and others.
The new 7-seater Maruti SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. The company has registered two brand names, Escudo and Torqnado. MSIL could use of one of these two names for the new 7-seater Grand Vitara.
Codenamed Y17, the new 7-seater Maruti SUV will be manufactured at Suzuki's new Kharkhoda manufacturing plant in Haryana. The SUV will share the powertrain options with the Grand Vitara. It will be powered by a 1.5L NA petrol engine produces 102bhp and 137Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV will also receive a 1.5L, 3-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engine that produces 114bhp and 141Nm of torque.
