Tata Safari EV to Maruti YMC – Big EV Launches Ahead

Tata Safari EV and Maruti YMC launching by 2026. 7-seater family EVs with 500+ km range coming soon. Tata, Maruti, Toyota, and VinFast lead India’s EV market.

Electric cars are no longer just small city cars. Indian buyers are now looking for bigger family EVs with more space and longer driving ranges. To meet this demand, carmakers like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, and VinFast are preparing 7-seater electric SUVs and MPVs for India, expected by 2026-27.

1. Tata Safari EV

Tata Motors is expanding its EV lineup with the Safari EV, which is expected to launch around the festive season this year. It keeps the familiar Safari design but adds electric-specific touches like a closed grille, aerodynamic wheels, and updated LED lights.

This could be Tata’s first three-row electric SUV, with features like ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette interiors, connected tech, and even a triple-screen setup inspired by the Sierra EV. Battery options may include 65 kWh and 75 kWh packs, with the larger one giving a claimed range of over 620 km. Higher variants could have all-wheel drive.

2. Maruti Suzuki YMC

Maruti Suzuki is bringing its first electric MPV, internally called the YMC, expected by the end of 2026. The car will be bigger than the Ertiga and designed for families needing 5- or 7-seater layouts.

The YMC could come with captain seats, a large touchscreen, panoramic roof, Level 2 ADAS, wireless charging, ventilated seats, connected car features, and a 360-degree camera. Its larger 61 kWh battery pack may offer a claimed range of up to 543 km, making it a practical family EV.

3. Toyota Version of YMC

Toyota is also likely to launch a version of the YMC. While it will use the same platform and battery packs, Toyota will redesign the exterior so it looks different from the Maruti model. This will strengthen Toyota’s family EV lineup in India.

4. Tata Avinya X

Tata is also working on the Avinya X, a premium electric crossover that could be offered in 5-, 6-, and 7-seater options. Nearly 5 metres long, it promises a modern, premium cabin with technology not yet seen in Tata’s current EVs.

5. VinFast Limo Green

Vietnam-based VinFast is planning a 7-seater electric MPV for India. A more affordable version is expected for fleet and mobility services. It will likely use a 60.13 kWh battery pack and offer a claimed range of around 517 km, while supporting VinFast’s Green and Smart Mobility ride-hailing service.
