Kia India has reached a major milestone as the Sonet has crossed five lakh units sold in the domestic market. The compact SUV achieved this feat in just over five years after its launch in September 2020, strengthening its position as one of Kia’s most important models in India’s highly competitive compact SUV segment.

Since its launch, the Kia Sonet has played a big role in helping the brand establish itself across the country. It has found strong acceptance among a wide range of buyers, including first-time car owners and young families. Built at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh under the ‘Make in India, for the World’ strategy, the Sonet reflects the brand’s focus on local manufacturing and global quality.
The Sonet’s success is not limited to India. Kia has exported over one lakh units of the SUV to nearly 70 international markets. These include regions such as the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, Mexico and parts of the APAC region. This global demand highlights the growing trust in India-made Kia vehicles.
In terms of contribution, the Sonet has emerged as a backbone for Kia India. The model accounts for around 35 percent of the brand’s total domestic sales. It has also crossed the one lakh annual sales mark for two consecutive years, showing consistent demand in both urban and emerging markets.
According to Kia, a steady preference for higher trims suggests growing customer interest in connected features, safety technologies and premium equipment. The Sonet’s success is also driven by its wide range of engine and transmission options, which allow buyers to choose variants that suit their needs and budgets.
Currently, the Kia Sonet is priced between Rs 7.30 lakh and Rs 14.09 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV received a mid-cycle update in January 2024, adding to its appeal. As Kia continues to expand its footprint with over 820 touchpoints across nearly 370 cities, the Sonet remains a crucial volume driver for the brand.
