Maruti Fronx Facelift, Fronx Flex Fuel to Launch in India by 2026

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to upgrade the Fronx lineup in India with two major new versions - the Fronx facelift and the Fronx Flex Fuel variant. Both models are expected to be introduced in the country by 2026.

Fronx Facelift to Get New Hybrid Powertrain

Maruti Fronx facelift will be the first Maruti car to feature the company’s new in-house developed series hybrid engine. In this setup, the petrol engine does not directly power the wheels. Instead, it works only as a generator to produce electricity that drives an electric motor. The power will come from the new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine paired with a small battery pack (around 1.5kWh to 2kWh). This setup is expected to deliver a certified mileage of around 35kmpl to 40kmpl, which will make the Fronx one of the most fuel-efficient compact SUVs in its segment.

The Fronx facelift is also likely to receive updates inside and out. The model is expected to come with ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, rear cross-traffic alert and autonomous emergency braking. The exterior could see mild styling revisions, while the cabin may receive new materials and updated tech features for a more premium feel.

Fronx Flex Fuel Model Also Under Development

Maruti Suzuki is also developing a flex fuel version of the Fronx. A Fronx FFV (Flex Fuel Vehicle) concept has already been showcased internationally. This version can run on petrol blends with ethanol content ranging from E20 to E85. The Indian government is already working on increasing ethanol usage, making the Fronx flex fuel a forward-ready model. The production version for India is expected to arrive sometime next year.

Visually, the Fronx flex fuel version looks similar to the current model, with green flex fuel stickers and blacked-out alloy wheels being the main differences. The dimensions and core design will remain unchanged. In markets like Japan, the Fronx also gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine, ADAS suite and optional AllGrip AWD, though the Indian version may have different feature configurations based on price positioning.
