Indian auto giant Tata Motors has given a price cut to the Nexon EV as well as introduced a new trim level in the Max lineup. The reduction is a response to tackle the launch of the new XUV400, whose prices were announced two days ago. Mahindra’s new electric SUV undercut its rival by Rs 85,000 for the top-end variant but now both models are priced exactly the same at Rs 18.99 lakh. The company also has given the Nexon EV Max an increased range of 453 kms.
Presented below are the updated prices for the Nexon EV

As seen from the above table, prices for the regular Nexon EV variants have dropped by Rs 31,000 - Rs 50,0000, while prices for the Nexon EV Max have been slashed by Rs 85,000 across most variants, including the flagship trim.
The automaker stated that Nexon EV prices have been reduced as part of the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme which is incentivizing EV manufacturing in India. However, the price drop according to us is also a reaction to compete with the newly launched XUV400, the first and currently the only direct rival to the Nexon EV. Mahindra’s electric SUV is priced between Rs 15.99 lakh to Rs 16.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the EC trim that uses a 34.5 kWh battery pack while for the EL variant that uses a 39.4 kWh battery pack it costs Rs 18.99 lakh.
Tata Motors in the last couple of years has been the sole automaker in the mass-market EV segment, leading it to have a dominant market share in the country. However, it will have to start looking over its shoulder more as the XUV400 is only the first true competitor with other brands too set to introduce their electric rivals.
Tata also has updated the Nexon EV Max with more electric range, claiming 453 km on the MIDC cycle, an increase of 17 kms. The battery pack remains the same at 40.5 kWh, with the bump becoming possible through a software update. Interestingly, the updated range is very similar to the XUV400 EV’s claimed range of 456 kms.
The automaker also announced that existing Nexon EV Max owners will also get the updated range from February 15 via an OTA update.
The Nexon EV Max is also getting a new XM entry-level trim, priced at Rs 16.49 lakh. This also markedly brings down the entry price for the bigger battery-packed models, with the next model costing Rs 1 lakh more even after the price cut. It will still come loaded with features like projector headlights, LED DRLs, a digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, push button stop/start, connected car tech, and more. Deliveries of the new variant are expected to start from April 2023.
