Toyota GR Corolla Hatchback to be Unveiled at Auto Expo 2023

Apart from Hycross and LC 300, Toyota will showcase its range of strong hybrid models, a plug-in hybrid, a flex-fuel hybrid, and a fuel cell electric vehicle

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that it will showcase a GR (Gazoo Racing) model for the very first time in India. As per media reports, the Toyota GR Corolla hatchback will make its appearance publicly at Delhi Auto Expo 2023 which will be held in Greater Noida from the 13th to the18th of January 2023. Alongside Land Cruiser 300 and Innova Hycross, Toyota will surely attract the audience with its GR model which is powered by a 1.6-litre, 3-cylinder, single-scroll turbocharged petrol engine.

About Toyota GR Corolla Hatchback

Toyota is aiming to gauge the people’s interest in Gazoo Racing (GR) models and thus showcasing its GR Corolla hatchback in India. The GR Corolla is a performance version of the standard Corolla hatchback which is already on sale overseas. The model has been reworked heavily by the Gazoo Racing performance division of Toyota.

Based on Toyota’s TNGA platform, the GR Corolla comes with a rigid body constructed by Gazoo Racing. The model gets extra welds around chassis joints and extensive use of structural adhesive between various components. In addition, GR has used lightweight material which makes the performance hatchback (1474 kg kerb) significantly lighter than the standard Corolla.

Toyota GR Corolla Hatchback: Powertrain and Transmission Details

Toyota GR Corolla will come powered by a 1.6-litre, 3-cylinder, single-scroll turbocharged petrol engine which can produce 304 bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque. As reported, GR has tweaked its engine to deliver better performance. The model comes with a triple-exit exhaust for improved exhaust flow and reduced back pressure. GR Corolla also gets larger exhaust valves, a part-machined intake port, and a new multi-oil jet piston cooling system. Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the power is transmitted to all four wheels.

Toyota GR Corolla Hatchback: Exterior Design and Interior Layout

The GR Corolla features rally-inspired design elements such as a larger front grille with wider air intakes, air intakes on the bumpers and fenders, flared wheel arches, sportier alloy wheels, a rear diffuser, etc. On the inside, the performance hatchback gets GR-badged sports seats, aluminium pedals, and a leather-trimmed GR steering wheel.
