German premium car maker, Volkswagen has recently announced to launch the Golf GTI and the Tiguan R-Line in India. Scheduled to be launched in Q2, 2025, that's April-June, the new Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line will come as performance-oriented models. While these two models will be positioned as premium offering, a new mass-market sub-compact SUV is also under development.
Volkswagen will introduce a new sub-4 meter SUV based on the Skoda Kylaq in 2026. This will be the brand's smallest SUV and will target masses. It is likely to be the Indianized version of the recently revealed Volkswagen Tera. While the Tera is marginally above 4 meters in length, the Tera will be around 4 meters. VW will need to make some adjustments to keep the new SUV under 4 meters in length.

Set to be a fully-imported model, the new VW Golf GTI will be sold in limited numbers. This hot hatchback enjoys huge popularity among car enthusiasts, thanks to its sporty and aggressive stance and performance. The cabin will have an black-interior scheme with minimalistic design for dashboard and sport seats.
It is packed with a sporty 3-spoke steering wheel, metallic pedals, GTI-specific digital climate control, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and automatic climate control. Powering the VW Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that is tuned to produce 245PS and a peak torque of 370Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DCT. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 5.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250kmph.

The top-spec Tiguan R-Line comes with a sportier design as compared to the standard model. The SUV comes with a gloss black front fascia, featuring an aggressive front bumper that houses large air vents. It gets LED lighting system, and large 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets 3-spoke steering wheel, 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 10.3-inch digital instrument console, sports seats and others.
The Tiguan R-Line is available with multiple engine options in global markets. The India-spec model is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to a 7-speed DSG. It also comes with Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

The Tera is the smallest and most affordable SUV from Volkswagen. It is built on the MQB-A0 platform that also underpins VW cars including Polo, Nivus and T-Cross on sale in global markets. The Skoda Kylaq has also been designed on the same platform. The sub-4 meter SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and others in the category.
The VW Tera will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine that also powers the Kylaq. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. The Brazilian-spec model will also receive a 1.0L 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual gearbox.
