In a bid to regain lost market share, Tata Motors is planning to launch multiple new SUVs and petrol derivatives of the Safari and Harrier before the end of this financial year. In fact, two new Tata SUVs, including the Punch facelift and Sierra EV will go on sale before Diwali. The ICE-powered Tata Sierra will arrive in our market in the first quarter of 2026.
It is reported that the petrol powered Harrier and Safari will be launched by the fag end of 2025, most probably in November or December. The Punch facelift and Sierra EV have been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads.
Tata Motors will reintroduced the Sierra nameplate as a modern lifestyle SUV. The SUV will have a mix of original and modern design language, premium and feature-loaded cabin and multiple powertrain choices. Tata Motors will first launch the electric derivative of the SUV by October or November 2026. On the other hand, the ICE-powered Sierra will arrive in our market in early next year - most probably in January 2026.
The Tata Sierra EV is based on the brand’s new Acti.ev gen2 platform that also underpins the Punch EV and Curvv EV. It is most likely to be a front-wheel-drive model, but Tata could add a dual-motor AWD set-up in the top-spec variants. The SUV is likely to share the battery options with the Tata Harrier EV, which is available with 65kWh and 75kWh battery. The bigger battery version could come with dual-motor AWD or QWD (Quad-Wheel Drive) drivetrain system. Expect a certified range of around 600+kms, and the realistic range of up to 500km in a single charge.
Tata Motors has confirmed that the overall styling of Sierra EV will remain true to its concept. The big update is that the Sierra EV will be the first Tata SUV to get a triple screen dashboard comprising a central infotainment unit, a driver’s display unit and a co-passenger entertainment screen. The electric SUV could be offered with two seating options - 5-seater and 4-seater (lounge variant). In terms of features, the electric SUV will get a panoramic sunroof, LEVEL-2 ADAS, ventilated and powered front seats, etc.
Tata Motors is testing the updated version of the Punch micro-SUV, which is expected to be launched in the next couple of months. The Tata Punch facelift is expected to come with subtle design and interior changes along with a longer list of features. Its styling is expected to be inspired by the Nexon and Punch EV.
The Tata Punch facelift is likely to come with a revised grille, in-line with the Nexon and an updated front and rear bumpers. The small SUV is also expected to receive newly designed alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the Punch facelift will have new two-spoke steering wheel, new colour scheme and upholstery for seats. The small SUV is also likely to get a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display.
The micro SUV won’t receive any mechanical changes. It will continue to be offered with the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT unit. This engine churns out 87bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. It will also come with a factory-fitted CNG version with dual-CNG tank.
