Here is a list of top 5 upcoming mid-sized electric SUVs, which will be positioned against the likes of the Mahindra BE 6 and the Tata Curvv EV.
Maruti Suzuki will unveil the new e Vitara electric SUV at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025. The new born-electric EV will be positioned against the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and the Mahindra BE 6. It will be manufactured at Suzuki's Gujarat based production facility, which will also act as a production hub for the global markets. The e Vitara is expected to be launched in the country by March 2025.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is based on an all-new skateboard architecture called Heartect-e. The SUV rides on 2700mm longer wheelbase and has a ground clearance of 180mm. It measures 4275mm in length, 1800mm in width and 1635mm in height. The e-SUV is likely to be equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) with features like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and others. The e-SUV will come with two battery options - a 49kWh and 61kWh. The e-SUV is likely to offer a range of over 500km on a single charge. The larger battery pack version also gets dual-motor AWD or All-Grip-e system.
Hyundai will introduce the long-awaited Creta EV at the Bharat Mobility Show next month. The new Creta EV will be based on the ICE-powered Creta platform, which will be tweaked to accommodate an EV setup. It will look identical to the regular Creta that received a major facelift in early 2024; however, the SUV will receive some EV-specific design changes. It will have a closed-off front grille, a charging port in the front, new aero wheels and revised interior.
The electric SUV will receive a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, advanced driver assistance system or ADAS suite, dual 10.25-inch screens, and others. The Hyundai Creta EV is expected to feature a 50-60kWh battery pack with a likely range of around 500km on a single charge.
Tata Motors will introduce the electric derivative of the Harrier SUV at the 2025 BMS. For people not in the know, Tata had showcased the Harrier EV concept in near production avatar at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show. It will look quite similar to the ICE-powered SUV; however, Tata will make several changes to offer a unique identity. The electric Harrier will come with a larger touchscreen infotainment unit, a rotary drive mode selector, a digital driver's display, a panoramic sunroof and others.
The e-SUV will be based on the Acti.ev platform that also underpins the Curvv EV and Punch EV. It is likely to be equipped with a battery pack of around 60kWh to 80kWh with dual-motor setup. The electric Harrier is likely to offer a range of up to 500km on a single charge.
Toyota will introduce its own version of the e Vitara in the second quarter of the next financial year (Q2, 2025). It will be based on the same e-HEARTECT platform that underpins the e Vitara. The electric SUV will be produced at Suzuki's Gujarat-based facility. It will share most of its design elements from the Toyota Urban SUV concept.
The e-SUV will get the same interior layout as the e Vitara; however, Toyota will add new colours to give a fresh feel. In terms of features, the electric SUV will have a digital instrument console, a 360-degree surround view camera, a panoramic sunroof and ADAS tech. The e-SUV will be offered with two battery packs - a 49kWh and 61kWh. It is likely to offer a certified range of over 500km on a single charge.
The Japanese automaker is developing an electric version of the Elevate SUV, which is scheduled to be launched sometime in 2026. Codenamed DG9D, the upcoming Honda Elevate EV will be manufactured at Honda's Tapukara production facility in Rajasthan. Details about the new model are yet to be revealed, but we expect the SUV to look largely similar to the ICE model. It is expected to feature a battery pack of around 50-60kwh with a front-axle-mounted motor. The Elevate EV should offer a real range of around 400km. Upon launch, it will challenge the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6, and Tata Curvv EV.
