We informed you earlier that Honda will launch the Elevate based electric SUV in India in 2026. However, Honda Cars India has confirmed that the new BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) will not be based on the Honda Elevate SUV. Instead, it will be an all-new electric car, designed and developed keeping the Indian market in mind.
The Japanese brand has not revealed details about the upcoming EV, but is most likely to be an electric SUV. The new Honda electric SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara. Similar to Maruti Suzuki, Honda will also set-up a charging infrastructure before introducing the new electric vehicle.
Not just electric vehicles, Honda Cars India will introduce more hybrid cars in our market. We believe that the Honda Elevate SUV could receive a hybrid derivative in near future. It will directly rival the Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid and Toyota Hyryder hybrid. Hyundai and Kia will also launch the hybrid versions of the next Creta and Seltos in our market.
The Japanese brand is also developing an all-new platform, codenamed PF2, which will be flexible enough to accommodate multiple engines including ICE, hybrid and electric. Additionally, the company is developing a new e-HEV hybrid technology with a 1.5L petrol engine and a new electric AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
The new PF2 platform will be used to develop the next-gen City, a sub-compact SUV and an all-new 3-row SUV. The new 7-seater SUV could be the first model based on the new PF2 platform. It will be launched in our market sometime in 2027. In order to achieve competitive pricing, Honda Cars India could also locally develop the hybrid powertrain.
