Japanese automaker, Honda is working on multiple new products including 3 new SUVs and the next-gen City sedan. The company will finally enter the electric vehicle space in 2026. Moreover, its first hybrid SUV will also arrive in the Indian market next year.
Honda will finally launch its first hybrid SUV in India in the second half of 2026. The existing Honda Elevate SUV will receive the brand’s tried & tested Atkinson cycle 1.5L hybrid engine that powers the City e:HEV. The outgoing model is powered by a 119bhp, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-step CVT.
The new Elevate hybrid will be produced at Honda’s Tapukara based manufacturing facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. It will rival the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, which are offered with Toyota’s 1.5L TNGA hybrid engine.
The Elevate hybrid will get the same powertrain that powers the Honda City e:HEV. It is the Atkinson Cycle, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motor, and a small battery pack. One electric motor work as an electric generator, while the other model is for propulsion.
At the launch event of the Elevate SUV in 2023, Honda had announced that it will launch an electric SUV based on the Elevate platform. However, Honda Cars India has now confirmed that the new BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) will not be based on the Elevate SUV. It will be an all-new electric car, designed and developed keeping the Indian market in mind.
The new electric SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. It is likely to measure around 4.3 meters in length with a five-seater layout. The new Honda EV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
