New Hyundai Compact EV Coming Soon - Punch EV Rival with 500 km Range

Hyundai compact EV coming by 2027. Up to 500 km range expected. Direct rival to Tata Punch EV.

Hyundai is preparing to launch a new compact electric SUV for India. This upcoming model will arrive by early 2027 and is expected to rival the Tata Punch EV.

The new EV is being developed mainly for city buyers, with a focus on practicality, range, and modern features.

Built on a Dedicated EV Platform

Unlike the Hyundai Creta Electric, which is based on an ICE model, this new SUV will be built from scratch as an EV.

It will use Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform, allowing better space, improved design flexibility, and a more efficient layout.

Rugged SUV Design

The upcoming Hyundai EV is expected to have a strong SUV look. It will feature a boxy design, high ground clearance, roof rails, and squared windows.

Black cladding and skid plates will add to its rugged appeal, making it suitable for both city and rough roads.

Signature Pixel Lighting

Hyundai will continue its futuristic design theme with pixel-style lighting. The front will get unique LED elements shaped like the letter “H” in Morse code, while similar lighting patterns will be seen at the rear.

New-Gen Cabin and Screens

Inside, the SUV will debut a new cockpit layout.

It is expected to feature:

  • A 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster
  • A 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Both screens will run on a new Android Automotive-based system, offering better connectivity and features.

Two Battery Options

Hyundai is likely to offer the SUV in two variants – standard range and extended range. Both versions will use a front-wheel-drive setup, but with different battery sizes.

The extended-range model could deliver a driving range of around 475 to 500 km on a single charge. To keep costs in check, Hyundai is expected to use locally sourced LFP battery cells.
