Hyundai India to Enter MPV and off-road SUV Category

Hyundai could launch Stargazer MPV in India New Muscular SUV with off-road capabilities

In a bid to improve sales, Hyundai is planning to introduce seven all-new nameplates and a total of 26 new products for the Indian market by 2030. The Korean brand confirmed that it will launch an MPV and an SUV with off-road capabilities. Both models will mark Hyundai’s entry into all-new segments in our market. Details on both these products are yet to be revealed, but we believe that the company could launch the Stargazer MPV on sale in Indonesia.

New Hyundai MPV

Hyundai claims that the upcoming MPV will enable mobility for all, which suggests that it could be a sub-20 lakh product and will target masses. It is likely to be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens. Hyundai has two MPVs globally, the Stargazer and Staria. In fact, Hyundai had showcased the Staria MPV at the 2025 Auto Expo.

We believe that Hyundai could launch the Stargazer MPV, which is designed and developed for emerging markets including Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. Measuring around 4.4 meters in length, the Hyundai Stargazer is available in 6-and 7-seat configuration. It is based on the same platform that underpins the Kia Carens Clavis. In India, the MPV is likely to be offered with 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel. The Hyundai Staria will be an expensive model, and rivals the Kia Carnival. This model can seat up to 11 passengers.

New Hyundai SUV

Hyundai confirms that the upcoming SUV will carry off-road capabilities along with muscular looks. The company has no product globally based on ladder-frame chassis and a proper 4x4 drivetrain. This SUV is most likely to be based on a new monocoque platform with an all-wheel-drive system. The Korean brand could introduce the long-wheelbase version of the Tucson AWD that’s on sale in China. However, the India-spec model is likely to carry a completely different styling.
