American automaker Jeep has announced the start of production of the 5th Generation Grand Cherokee in India. Produced at the brand’s manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, Pune, the Grand Cherokee is the fourth model to be assembled in the country.
Speaking at the start of the production ceremony, Nipun J Mahajan, Head of Jeep India, said, "The all-new Grand Cherokee promises an exceptional experience for the driver as well as the passengers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been developed and engineered to deliver legendary capabilities, class-leading spaciousness, and excellent safety, making the 5th-gen model a global icon in the luxury SUV segment. The generous mix of content and features blended to a legendary offering compliments the premium and exemplary lifestyle of our customers.”
The 5th generation Grand Cherokee is based on an all-new architecture that provides improved vehicle performance, safety, and reliability. The exterior design is modern but also instantly recognisable as a Jeep. It gets the trademark seven-slot grille that is flanked by sleek headlights with LED DRLs. The side profile gets a lowered, tapered roof that improves the SUV’s aerodynamic performance and efficiency without sacrificing interior space. The rear end of the Grand Cherokee gets an all-new LED taillights set-up with exhausts tips on both corners.
Moving to the inside, the new Grand Cherokee gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and another new 10.25-inch secondary touchscreen dedicated for the front passenger. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, active noise control system, HUD, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate and more.
Jeep has also confirmed that the SUV will be getting Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) tech with features Forward Collision Warning, Pedestrian Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Blind Spot and Cross Path Detection, Passive Pedestrian Protection, Drowsy Driver Detection, Active Lane Management System and Intersection Collision Assist System.
Contrary to previous iterations, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will be offered with only a petrol engine option. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit is expected to be offered in its most powerful iteration mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The 5th-generation Grand Cherokee will come with Jeep’s Quadra-Trac 4x4 System coupled with Selec-Terrain traction management system that offers the optimum 4x4 performance.
The automaker will be revealing the prices of the new Grand Cherokee on 17th November 2022. Bookings are now open on the official Jeep India website and select dealerships across the country. Jeep has said deliveries will commence before the end of the month.
Upon its launch, the Grand Cherokee will compete against the likes of the Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, and Land Rover’s Discovery and Defender.
