Kia’s Most Affordable EV & Hybrid SUVs – Launch Timeline & Details

Kia Syros EV launches August 2026. Next-gen Sonet to get a hybrid. Kia expands hybrid and EV lineup.

Kia India plans to expand its electric product portfolio, while entering the hybrid vehicle segment in the coming years. In 2026, the South Korean automaker will introduce its smallest and most affordable electric car – the Kia Syros EV. It’s scheduled to hit showrooms in August.

The new Kia Seltos will be brand’s first model to receive a new strong hybrid powertrain, followed by the Kia Sorento and the next-generation Kia Sonet. The all-new Sonet will become Kia’s most affordable hybrid offering in India.

Kia Syros EV

Similar to its ICE counterpart, the Kia Syros EV will underpin the K1 platform and retain the overall design and styling. However, it will feature several EV-specific changes inside and out. Spy shots revealed that the EV will feature a boxy silhouette along with revised bumpers, a charging flap on the front fender and aero-optimized alloy wheels. The Syros EV could be offered with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) capabilities.

The powertrain specifications are yet to be revealed; however, the Kia Syros EV is expected to borrow the 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs with the Hyundai Inster EV. It’s estimated to be priced between Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), challenging the Tata Nexon EV.

New Kia Sonet Hybrid

The second-generation Kia Sonet is expected to receive comprehensive design changes, feature upgrades and a new hybrid powertrain. According to reports, Kia might electrify its tried-and-tested 1.5L petrol engine along with retaining the existing engines. The current-gen model is available with an 83bhp, 1.2L petrol, a 120bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol and a 116bhp, 1.5L diesel engine options.

With the generational upgrade, the subcompact SUV will switch to the new K1 platform that supports the latest E&E electrical and electronics architecture.

While the next-gen Kia Sonet is slated to launch in late 2027, its hybrid version might come at a later stage (possibly in 2028 or 2029).
