As per latest media reports, it is believed that the South Korean automaker Kia Motor India has imported the latest-generation of the Sorento SUV to its Andhra Pradesh manufacturing facility. While there is no official announcement on its debut and launch, it is expected that the SUV will be unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023.
Kia had previously showcased the earlier generation of the Sorento at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. However, that did not materialize into a launch of the SUV in the country.
The current Fourth-Generation Kia Sorento was first revealed at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. It features an all-new design language that is completely different from its predecessor. The SUV is more muscular looking as it features a sculpted bonnet, wide tiger-nose grille, and projector headlights with LED DRLs. The side profile gets a tapering window line along with contrasting roof rails and side skirts. The rear-end provides a heavily sculpted tailgate, LED tail lights, and a spoiler.
Moving to the interior, the Sorento comes loaded with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in a single panel inspired from Mercedes-Benz vehicles. A separate climate control panel sits underneath. Being one of Kia’s premium products, the SUV will offer equipment like a 12-speaker audio system from Bose, improved cruise control, wireless charger, ambient lighting, HUD, Connected Car Tech, and more.

In global markets, the Kia Sorento is offered with two engine options. There’s a 2.2-litre diesel that makes 202 bhp and a 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid that churns out 230 bhp of power output. There’s also a plug-in hybrid model that uses a 16.6 kWh battery pack. It powers a 90 bhp electric motor, offering a combined power output of 265 bhp.
While prices haven’t been announced yet, expect the Sorento to be positioned higher than most of other Kia models in India. It is likely to start at a price of around Rs 30 lakh (showroom).
In India, it will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Škoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and the Hyundai Tucson.
