The homegrown automaker, Mahindra will launch the updated versions of the Thar and XUV700 before the end of this financial year or by March 2026. Both SUVs have already been caught testing, revealing key design and interior changes. It is expected that the Thar facelift will arrive first, followed by the XUV700 facelift in early next year.
It is expected that the Thar 3-door facelift will be launched before Diwali 2025. A possible launch in September 2025 can’t be ignored. However, Mahindra is yet to reveal the exact launch date for the updated Thar lifestyle SUV.

The spy images reveal that the 3-door Thar facelift will receive a heavily revised front fascia, which is inspired by its larger sibling, the Thar Roxx. The updated Thar will come with a new front grille, which is similar to the 5-door Roxx. It will be equipped with the signature round headlamps, but they will be LED projector units. The lifestyle SUV will come with an updated LED tail-lamps, and newly styled 5-spoke alloy wheels.
The spy images confirmed that the Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift will receive a significantly revised interiors. It will come an all-black interior scheme, which suits well with its off-road credentials. The overall dashboard layout will appear largely identical to the existing model. However, the Thar 3-door facelift will come with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

The Thar facelift is also likely to get a new 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. The outgoing model has a semi-digital instrument console. Another big update that the power window switch control panel will be added to the front door panel. In the current model, the power control switches are placed on the centre console.
The new Thar 3-door is also likely to come with automatic climate control, but this feature could be restricted to the top-end variant only. The SUV could also get an updated premium sound system, as the Thar Roxx comes with Dolby Atmos tech for an immersive sound experience. The SUV will continue to offer features like steering-mounted controls, height-adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control and remote keyless entry.
For safety and security, the new Thar facelift will get 6 airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto dimming IRVM, electronic stability control, hill start and hill assist control, and a roll cage. Mahindra could add ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and others.
The 2025 Mahindra Thar facelift is likely to retain the existing engine options, including a 2.0L turbo petrol, a 1.5L turbo diesel and a 2.2L turbo diesel. The turbo petrol engine is capable of producing 150bhp and up to 320Nm of torque, and can be paired to either a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The automatic version comes with a 4WD set-up, while the manual gets a RWD setup.
Paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 1.5L turbo diesel engine produces 116bhp and 300Nm of torque. It is only available in a rear-wheel-drive layout. The 2.2L turbo diesel engine is good for 130bhp and 300Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions are available with 4WD set-up.
