November 2024 was a gloomy month for the Indian automotive industry as buyers made heavy purchases during the festive months, taking advantage of Diwali discounts and offers. A total of 3,51,592 units were sold last month, compared to 3,34,868 units in the same month last year, accounting for a YoY sales growth of 5 percent. However, the sales declined when compared to the sales figures of October 2024. Here’s a model-wise sales breakup of India’s two largest passenger vehicle manufacturers – Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.
The Indo-Japanese automaker managed to sell a total of 1,41,312 units as opposed to 1,34,158 units in November 2023. The Maruti Swift, which received a generational shift this year, emerged as the top-selling Maruti Suzuki model with total sales of 14,737 units. The Baleno, Vitara Brezza, and Ertiga were the second, third, and fourth top-selling Maruti Suzuki models with sales of 16,293 units, 14,918 units, and 15,150 units, respectively. All three models registered YoY sales growth of 26%, 11%, and 18%, respectively.
The Maruti Dzire recently entered its fourth generation and has gathered 30,000 bookings so far. In November 2024, the compact sedan recorded total sales of 11,779 units, accounting for a massive YoY growth of 51 percent. With total sales of 13,982 units and 10,589 units, the Maruti WagonR and Eeco grabbed the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
The premium UV offerings – Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Invicto – recorded sales of 10,148 units, 988 units, and 434 units, respectively. The carmaker’s entry-level Alto hatchback posted sales of 7,467 units against 8,076 units in the same month last year, registering a decline of 8 percent. The sales figures of the XL6, Ignis, Celerio, S-Presso, and Ciaz stood at 2,483 units, 2,203 units, 2,379 units, 2,283 units, and 597 units, respectively.
Sales of Hyundai Motor India (HMI) declined to 48,246 units in November 2024 from 49,451 units in November 2023. It registered a YoY sales decline of 2.4 percent. The Hyundai Creta was the best-selling model from the South Korean automaker and also the top-selling SUV in the country. A total of 15,452 units of the Creta were sold last month compared to 11,814 units in the corresponding month last year. The Hyundai Venue and Exter were the second and third top-selling products with sales of 9,754 units and 5,747 units, respectively. The Hyundai Grand i10 hatchback also performed well with sales of 5,667 units in November 2024.
The Aura compact sedan managed to record total sales of 4,248 units against 3,850 units, registering a YoY growth of 10 percent. The Verna, Alcazar, and Tucson became the seventh, eighth, and ninth best-selling Hyundai models in the country.
