MG Starlight 560 Plug-in Hybrid India Reveal Likely on July 16

MG to reveal its NEW ENERGY VEHICLE on July 16 It could be based on Wuling Starlight 560

We informed you earlier that JSW MG Motor India will launch its first plug-in hybrid vehicle, likely to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, before Diwali 2026. The company has invited us for a new product reveal on July 16, 2026, which will be the brand’s next “New Energy Vehicle”. While the company has not revealed the vehicle’s name, it is expected to be the India-spec midsize SUV Based on the Wuling Starlight 560. This SUV has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. 


The official text message stated, “Internet Inside transformed the way India drove. Now, it’s time to power the next evolution. Join us as we redefine the way India thinks about New Energy Vehicles.” The reference to New Energy Vehicles suggests that the company would introduce the plug-in hybrid tech in mass-market vehicle. 


MG Starlight 560 - Key Details


The new midsize SUV will come with both PHEV and electric powertrains. It is likely to come with 7-seat configurations and measure longer than the XUV 7XO. The global-spec model is 4745mm long, 1850mm wide and 1755mm tall with a wheelbase of 2810mm. It is around 50mm longer than the Mahindra XUV 7XO, along with a longer wheelbase.


Its plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising a 1.5L petrol engine, an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. It offers a combined power and torque output of 194bhp and 230Nm, respectively. The SUV offers a pure electric range of 100km and a total range of 1100km  (including the 52-litre fuel tank), as per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).


Inside the cabin, the MG Starlight 560 gets an integrated dual screen setup comprising a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.8-inch digital instrument console. In terms of features, the SUV gets connected car tech, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, multiple USB charging ports, panoramic sunroof, OTA updates, premium leatherette upholstery and others.
