Mahindra is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the domestic market. The company has dislodged Hyundai to grab second position in the Indian passenger vehicle category with a constant sale of over 50,000 SUVs per month. In order to further boost sales, Mahindra has started testing the new Bolero Neo with completely new design.
The recent test mules of the new Mahindra Bolero NEO reveals a revolutionary design, which is completely different from any of the Mahindra SUVs on sale in India. In fact, multiple renderings based on the spy shots reveal that the new Bolero Neo could be the next lifestyle SUV with modern and rugged appeal from the homegrown automaker.
We believe that the all-new Bolero Neo could be Mahindra’s answer to the much-awaited Tata Sierra, which is scheduled to be launched in the end of 2025. In fact, the Sierra will come with both ICE and electric powertrains. It will be positioned between the Curvv and Harrier, and will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in the mid-sized SUV category.
Mahindra has no product in the mid-sized SUV category and the new Bolero Neo could play an important role in attracting new set of buyers. While Sierra will be a front-wheel-drive SUV, the new Mahindra Bolero will continue to be based on the ladder-frame chassis.
If reports are to be believed, the new Mahindra Bolero Neo facelift will make global debut on August 15, 2025. The company will also reveal a new Flexible architecture (NFA) platform on the same day. This platform will be used to develop the next-gen Bolero and the Bolero EV.
The new Bolero Neo comes with a completely different top hat, and all the body panels are all-new. The rear quarter of the SUV seems inspired by the Land Rover Defender. It has new doors with flush handles and new body cladding in the lower part of the doors, more pronounced wheel arches and newly designed larger twin 5-spoke alloy wheels.
The front design is also completely new with Scorpio-N-like Mahindra grille. The spotted model has circular headlamps, but these are likely to be temporary units. The rear is likely to feature a side-hinged door and a tail-gate mounted spare wheel.
The SUV is likely to be equipped with six airbags, a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit, automatic climate control and others. The existing model is packed with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that produces 100PS and 260Nm of torque, and is paired to a manual gearbox. Mahindra could add the existing 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine with manual and automatic gearbox choices. Moreover, a petrol-derivative of the SUV could also be introduced.
