Next-Gen Kia Sorento MQ5 Launch in 2027 - India-Bound

We informed you earlier that Kia will launch a new 7-seater premium SUV based on the Sorento in the Indian market. A new media report claims that the launch of the all-new fifth-generation Sorento MQ5 is now pushed to 2027. The SUV was originally planned to be introduced in the second half of 2026. It is reported that the current-generation Sorento, which was launched in 2020, continues to post record-breaking sales for the Korean brand. 

Kia is capitalising on the current Sorento’s popularity by extending its lifecycle, which also gives additional time to Kia to ensure the next MQ5 arrives as a fully future-ready SUV. A digital artist, NYMammoth has released a new rendering of the next-generation Kia Sorento, which seems inspired from the new-gen Telluride. 

2027 Kia Sorento - Key Details

The outgoing Kia Sorento MQ4 is consistently topping the sales the charts in key markets such as the United States, Europe, and South Korea. It offers spacious cabin, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and premium tech. Kia is currently expanding its production capacity to meet the global demand for hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants of the SUV. Moreover, the next-gen model will come with electrified powertrains and next-gen infotainment. 

The next-generation Kia Sorento is expected to feature a bolder design inspired by the flagship EV9 and the Kia Telluride. It will have a fully digital cockpit, and a more electrified powertrains with extended-range hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. 

The render shows that the MQ5 Sorento will have EV9-like vertical LED headlights and new “Stamp” tail-lamps, Telluride-like front fascia with modern Tiger-Nose grille, multi-spoke alloy wheels, pop-out type door handles and uniquely-styled ORVMs. It is expected to get Panoramic dual 12.3-inch curved displays powered by Kia’s next-gen Pleos OS, independent second-row ventilated seats, and premium materials. 

The SUV is expected to be equipped with 1.6L turbo hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines. The PHEVs are likely to offer up to 100km of EV-only range. The SUV could also get a 2.2L diesel engine that powers the current model in select international markets. 

2027 Kia Sorento India Details

The India-spec Kia Sorento is expected to be introduced in the second half of 2027. While the global-spec model is expected to arrive in both 5-and 7-seat layout, the India-spec model is reportedly to come in 7-seat avatar. It is reported that the India-spec model could debut a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol hybrid, which will also power the new Kia Seltos and the next-gen Hyundai Creta. However, we believe that the India-spec Kia Sorento could get the 1.6L hybrid powertrain offered with the global-spec Kia Seltos.
