November 2024 cars sales up 5% YoY, decline 11.6% MoM. Maruti sold 1.41 lakh units, with Baleno, Ertiga, and Brezza as best-sellers. Toyota saw 48.8% YoY growth, driven by Innova and Glanza. Hyundai and Kia reported declines in YoY and MoM sales.
November 2024 wasn’t a great month for the Indian automobile industry. Most purchases were made during the festival season, with further purchases postponed to the year-end due to heavy discounts and benefits offered by OEMs and dealers. What little worked in its favor was the ongoing wedding season, which helped achieve a 5 percent YoY sales growth. A total of 3,51,592 passenger vehicles were sold last month compared to 3,34,868 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. However, the industry witnessed an 11.6 percent MoM sales decline compared to 3,97,947 units sold in October 2024.
Maruti Suzuki retained the top spot with sales of 1,41,312 units compared to 1,34,158 units in November 2023, marking a YoY growth of 5.3 percent. However, it experienced an 11.5 percent decline compared to October 2024. The Baleno led the charts as Maruti Suzuki's top-selling model with 16,293 units sold. Other strong performers included the Ertiga (15,150 units), Brezza (14,918 units), Fronx (14,882 units), and Swift (14,737 units). The new-gen Dzire also contributed to the company’s marginal YoY growth.
Hyundai Motor India retailed 48,246 units compared to 49,451 units in November 2023, reflecting a decline of 2.4 percent. In October 2024, the company sold 55,568 units, resulting in a 13.2 percent MoM sales decline in November.
Tata Motors emerged as India’s third-largest OEM with sales of 47,063 units, slightly higher than the 46,070 units sold in November 2023, reflecting a 2.2 percent YoY growth.
Mahindra & Mahindra ranked fourth with sales of 46,222 units, achieving significant YoY growth of 15.6 percent. The Scorpio and XUV700 were the brand’s top performers, with 12,704 and 9,100 units sold, respectively.
November 2024 proved fruitful for Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which recorded a remarkable YoY sales growth of 48.8 percent, selling 25,183 units compared to 16,924 units the previous year. Key contributors included the Innova and Innova Hycross (7,867 units), Glanza (3,806 units), Taisor (3,620 units), and Rumion (1,803 units).
Kia ranked sixth among car manufacturers in November, posting total sales of 20,600 units. However, this marked a 9.5 percent YoY decline.
MG Motor registered impressive YoY growth of 44.9 percent with 6,019 units sold. Conversely, OEMs such as Honda, Volkswagen, and Skoda reported YoY sales declines of 42.7 percent, 2.0 percent, and 23.7 percent, respectively. Renault India managed to retail 2,811 units in November 2024, up from 2,452 units in November 2023, achieving a YoY growth of 14.6 percent. Nissan, Citroen, and Jeep reported sales of 2,342 units, 509 units, and 361 units, respectively.
