Tata Motors has delivered 10,000 units of the Tata Sierra lifestyle SUV to customers across India. The new Sierra was launched in November last year. It received an overwhelming response from buyers with 70,000 vehicles were booked within 24 hours on the opening of bookings on December 16. The total bookings has crossed 1 lakh mark with waiting period hitting close to 5-6 months.
In order to meet the rising demand, Tata Motors has decided to ramp up production. The new Tata Sierra is available in 5 trim levels - Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, and Adventure+ - in both petrol and diesel avatars. It is available in the price bracket of Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 21.29 lakh, ex-showroom.
The new Tata Sierra is available with 3 engine options, including a new 1.5L NA petrol and a 1.5L turbo petrol. The 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 104bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 145Nm at 2,100rpm. It is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 158bhp at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 255Nm at 1,750-4,000rpm. It gets a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 116bhp at 4000rpm and a peak torque of 260Nm (MT) / 280Nm (AT). Both engines are offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Tata Sierra measures 4340mm in length, 1841mm in width and 1715mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2730mm. It has the longest wheelbase in its category, the Seltos has a second best at 2690mm. The SUV offers a boot space of 622-litres to the roof (450-litres to the parcel shelf), which can be further extended up to 1257-litres by folding the second-row seats.
The Sierra directly rivals the segment-leaders including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara. Other models in the segment includes Toyota Hyryder, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate and the Maruti Suzuki Victoris.
