Earlier this year, Skoda Auto revealed teaser images of the upcoming all-new Kodiaq. The teasers did not reveal much about the SUV except for the silhouette. But latest spy shots have spotted the next-gen model being tested on public roads for the first time, giving us a better look at the upcoming SUV.
As seen in images, the test mule spotted features heavy camouflage. However, we did notice some new design elements on the Kodiaq.
At the front, it features a classic wide Skoda grille with vertical slats. The grille is flanked by sleek LED headlights with integrated DRLs. Lower down, there is a wind air-dam with vertical air intakes on each side of the bumper.
Towards the sides, the SUV gets a fairly clean profile with minimal character lines. The rear cannot be seen in the pictures but the teaser confirmed it will get a roof spoiler and wraparound LED tail lights.
The new Kodiaq will be underpinned by the VW group’s MQB modular platform. The automaker is expected to offer a range of petrol mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrain options internationally.
However, for the Indian market, the SUV will likely continue with the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor that does duty on the current model. It is expected to produce 188 bhp with 320 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission.
Skoda is expected to introduce the next-gen Kodiaq globally by late-2023. While the company hasn't confirmed the India launch of the new model, we expect the upcoming SUV to go on sale in the country by mid-2024.
Expect the new Kodiaq to be priced higher than the current models Rs 37.99 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 41.39 lakh (ex-showroom) price range. Upon launch, it will rival the Jeep Meridian and the Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market.
