Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch two new SUVs - the e Vitara electric and Escudo before the end of this financial year. Maruti Suzuki has announced to launch an all-new model on September 3, 2025. If rumours are to be believed, MSIL could launch the e Vitara or the Escudo.
Earlier this year, MSIL hinted that the eVitara will be on sale by September 2025. However, the threat around rare earth materials used to manufacture EV batteries. India is importing its majority of the rare earth materials from China, which recently halted rare earth exports citing national security concerns. In fact, MSIL has reduced the e Vitara production plan from 26,000 to 9,000 units. We expect that the launch of the e Vitara could be delayed and the Escudo could arrive before on September 3, 2025.
Maruti Suzuki could launch both SUVs on the same day; however, further details will come in near future. The Maruti Escudo will be a 5-seater SUV and will be sold through ARENA dealership network. This SUV will be positioned between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in the category.
The Maruti Suzuki Escudo will be longer than the Grand Vitara, which is 4,345mm in length. It was earlier planned to be a 7-seater SUV; however, the company has decided to launch the new SUV as a 5-seater model. The new Escudo will be based on the same Suzuki’s Global-C platform that underpins the Grand Vitara and Brezza.
It is likely to share the features with the Brezza and Grand Vitara. The feature-list could include a large touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The new Maruti Escudo is likely to be offered with two engine choices - a 1.5L NA petrol and a 1.5L, 3-cylinder engine with a strong hybrid tech. The NA engine produces 102bhp and 139Nm of torque with 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. In the CNG mode, the engine produces 86.79bhp and 121.5Nm, and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The hybrid engine is capable of producing 91bhp and 122Nm of torque. The electric motor offers a maximum power and torque output of 79bhp and 141Nm, respectively.
