Maruti Suzuki finally revealed the e-Vitara, its first electric vehicle in India. It is going to rival popular EVs like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV. The Maruti e Vitara is scheduled to be launched in the country in the next couple of months. It has made its first public appearance at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. The electric SUV is based on the company's newly developed Heartect-e platform, which is claimed to be a lightweight structure and offers high-voltage protection.
The e Vitara is available with two BYD-sourced lithium-iron-phosphate battery packs - 49kWh and 61kWh. The SUV comes as a front-wheel-drive model as standard, while the top-spec model gets a dual-motor 4x4 setup. The base version with 49kWh offers 142bhp, while the 61kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor produces 172bhp and a torque output of 189Nm. On the other hand, the dual-motor version is rated at 181bhp and 300Nm of torque.
The new Suzuki e Vitara features the brand's new AllGrip-e system that is claimed to offer "powerful performance". The SUV is benefitted with a Trail mode for better performance on tough terrain and slippery conditions. This system applies brake on spinning wheels and sends torque to opposite wheel for better traction. There are three drive modes on offer - Normal, Eco and Sport. Driver can adjust regenerative braking mode using a button on the centre console.
The Maruti e Vitara comes with a premium cabin that offers high-end features such as a large digital instrument console, a bigger touchscreen infotainment system and a layered dashboard layout. Gloss black finishes for the center console, as well as a flat-bottom steering wheel, have also been applied to give this EV a rich and elegant appearance. Upholstery made from leather and fabric complement this high-class vehicle's aesthetic.
Other features include wireless phone charging, drive modes, automatic climate control, adjustable headrests, and connectivity like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The e-SUV is Maruti's first car to offer ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, lane assist, autonomous emergency braking, auto high-beam and others. For safety, the e-SUV gets six airbags, electronic parking brake with auto hold, hill descent control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a 360-degree surround view camera and others.
The e-Vitara will be manufactured in the company's Gujarat plant for both the Indian and overseas markets. Suzuki will begin unveiling the electric SUV in the European markets in June 2025.
