The Indian auto giant has cited that over 11,000 units produced between August 8, 2022, and November 15, 2022, have been suspected to be fitted with a defective rear seatbelt bracket. We take a detailed look at the cause.
Maruti Grand Vitara Recall: Regulatory Filing
As per the regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange, Maruti stated that it will be recalling 11,177 units of the Grand Vitara due to a possible defect in the rear seat belt mounting brackets. In many cases these defective brackets can become loose in the long run and impact the functionality and safety of the rear occupants. The automaker also said that its official workshops will contact the owners of the affected models to inspect and replace the parts free of charge.
Fourth Maruti Suzuki Recall in Four Months
This marks the fourth time in the last 120 days that a Maruti Suzuki car has been recalled over safety related production issues. At the end of December over 17,000 units of the Grand Vitara, Brezza, Baleno, Eeco, and the S-Presso were recalled due to a faulty airbag controller. In December 2022, over 9,000 units of the Grand Vitara, XL6, Ertiga, and Ciaz were recalled for a possible defect in the child parts of the front seat belt shoulder height adjuster assembly.
The automaker also recalled more than 9,000 units of the Ignis, Celerio, and Wagon R due to a defect in the rear brake assembly pins.
