MG Motor India has just launched the entire model lineup of the Comet EV in India. Officially revealed last month with just the entry level price announcement, the British Marquee has now gone ahead and provided a detailed variant wise pricing. Bookings for the four-wheeler will begin from 15th May with deliveries expected to start in phases from the end of the month.
MG Comet EV is available in three variants namely Pace, Play and Plush. The entry-level Pace and mid-spec Play variants are priced at Rs 7.98 lakh and Rs 9.28 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. The flagship Plush model will set you back by Rs 9.98 lakh ( ex-showroom). However, do not these are introductory prices which are available to the first 5,000 customers only.
The Comet EV’s interior features a minimalistic design with a white and gray colour scheme. The dashboard offers dual 10.25-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system. Other key highlights include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car tech with over 55 features, a rotary gear selector, Apple iPod inspired steering-mounted controls, keyless entry and go alongside a tire pressure monitoring system.
The electric vehicle uses a 17.3 kWh battery pack sourced from Tata AutoComp that powers a single rear-axle mounted electric motor. Together they produce a maximum power output of 42 bhp with 110 Nm of peak torque. The company claims an ARAI-certified range of 230 kms while fully charging the battery takes 7 hours. Interestingly, the Comet does not support DC fast charging.
The Comet EV sits on its own sub-category as a strictly city commuter. Its closest rivals in terms of pricing are the Citroen eC3 and the Tata Tiago .EV.
However, both the Citroen and Tata cost considerably more than the MG, the eC3 is priced between Rs 11.50 lakh to Rs 12.43 lakh (ex-showroom) while prices for the Tiago .EV range from Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 12.04 lakh (ex-showroom).
