Making a big splash at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023, MG Motors India has showcased 5 new vehicles it considers to launch in India. Aimed at a vastly different customer demographic, the new models will help the company mount a serious challenge in the Indian market.
The showstopper for MG cars at the 2023 Auto Expo was the MG4 EV hatchback. A production ready model based on the MG Cyberster Concept, the MG4 EV made its debut at the end of June 2022 in the International market. The futuristic looking hatchback is built on SAIC’s bespoke modular scalable platform (MSP). The MG 4 EV measures 4287 mm in length, 1836 mm in width and 1506 mm in height. It offers a wheelbase of 2705 mm. The new electric hatchback will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV400, Hyundai Kona EV and the BYD Atto 3 in India.

In terms of exterior design, the MG 4 features a bold look with sharp lines and compact proportions. The aerodynamically efficient front end features a drooping nose, angular headlights and vertical LED DRLs. An important design element upfront includes central air intake with a small splitter. Towards the sides we get to character lines running the length of the car along with dual tone aero optimised alloy wheels. Towards the rear it provides a new two-part roof spoiler along with an angular boot lid that houses sleek LED brake lights that extend the width of the car.
The futuristic theme of the exterior continues on the inside with a new minimalistic dashboard design that features two floating screens (one 10.25-inch and the other 7-inch) for infotainment and the driver’s cockpit. The all-black theme of the interior helps give a sporty look to the cabin. In addition, the use of a bespoke EV architecture, helps the car skip the central console and replace it with a high placed platform that houses the rotary gear selector, wireless charger and the e-park brake.
Talking about the powertrain, MG has confirmed that the MG4 EV will come equipped with a 64-kWh battery pack that is rated for a claimed range of 450+ kilometres. The power output from the single motor setup is set at 204 bhp with 250 Nm of peak torque. Like most current generation EVs, the MG4 EV will come provided with 150 kW DC fast charging technology.

MG Motors plans to launch the MG4 EV in India before the end of 2023 at a starting price of Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
Alongside the MG4 EV, the company also showcased the eHS, hybrid electric vehicle based on the MG ZS EV and the MG Astor. Other interesting products announced for India include the eRX5 (electric SUV), MG6 (electric sedan), MIFA9 – Words first full-size pure electric MPV, Marvel R (compact electric SUV) and finally the MG5 Electric Estate.
