We informed you earlier that Honda is planning to launch hybrid cars and SUVs in India. In fact, the Elevate could receive a hybrid powertrain. A new media report claims that Honda Elevate SUV will be the first hybrid SUV from the Japanese car manufacturer in India. The outgoing model is powered by a 119bhp, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-step CVT.
The report claims that the Honda Hybrid SUV will be produced at Honda’s Tapukara based manufacturing facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. Honda aims to launch the Elevate hybrid SUV in the country around the 2026 festive season, before Diwali.
The new Honda Elevate hybrid will directly rival the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, which are available with Toyota’s 1.5L TNGA hybrid engine. Moreover, Kia is also planning to launch the next-gen Seltos with a hybrid powertrain. Mahindra, Hyundai and Renault are also planning to launch hybrid SUVs in the Indian market.
It is expected that the new Elevate Hybrid will get the same powertrain that powers the Honda City e:HEV. It is the highly fuel efficient Atkinson Cycle, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motor, and a small battery pack. One electric motor work as an electric generator, while the other motor is for propulsion.
The City e:HEV is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 27.13kmpl, and offers a driving range of around 1,000km in a single tank. We expect the new Honda Elevate hybrid to return a fuel efficiency of over 26kmpl.
Honda has already announced to launch an electric SUV in India in the first half of 2026. The new model was speculated to be an electric derivative of the Elevate SUV; however, Honda has confirmed that it will be an all-new electric SUV. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara. Honda will also set-up a charging infrastructure before introducing the new electric vehicle.
