Tata Motors is preparing multiple new models including the Harrier EV and the Sierra lifestyle SUV. Adding to it, the homegrown automaker will upgrade its existing line-up by introducing facelifts and new engine options. The Tata Curvv Coupe-SUV will be the next model from the brand to offer 4 different engine choice.
The Tata Curvv is available with petrol, diesel and electric powertrains. The company will soon introduce the CNG version of the SUV Coupe, as testing of the Curvv CNG has already been started. Tata Motors had confirmed that the Curvv's Coupe design is compatible with CNG powertrains.
Tata Curvv CNG will join the Nexon i-CNG, which was launched in September 2024. It is the only model to feature a turbocharged petrol engine with a CNG kit. The Curvv CNG will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine coupled with twin CNG cylinder tanks. This powertrain is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 170Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Tata Curvv CNG will directly rival the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG. Tata Motors could launch the Curvv CNG by mid-2025, just before the festival season. It is expected to be around Rs 1 lakh expensive than the equivalent petrol variant.
The SUV Coupe is available with 3 engine options - a 118bhp, 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol, a 116bhp, 1.5L diesel and a new 123bhp, 1.2L direct engine turbo petrol. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic option.
The Tata Curvv electric model is offered with battery options - a 45kWh and a 55kWh, offering a certified range of up to 502km and 585km, respectively, on a single charge.
Seeing the growing demand for hybrid cars, popular mass-market car manufacturers like Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra and Renault are planning to launch hybrid SUVs in India.
