The Tata Harrier has not received any significant exterior updates since its launch four years ago in 2019. However, that is going to change soon with Tata Motors gearing up to introduce the facelifted Harrier in India. Latest spy shots reveal the upcoming SUV being tested on Indian roads. We take a closer look.
Tata had earlier showcased the Harrier EV Concept at 2023 Delhi Auto Expo alongside the Sierra and Curvv Concepts. Upon launch, the Harrier EV will become the new electric flagship SUV for the brand. The upcoming vehicle is expected to be underpinned by a modified version of the Omega Arc platform to fit the new electric powertrain. As for the powertrain itself, while no details have been announced yet, it will likely use Tata’s new Gen 2 setup. The battery pack will be larger than even the Nexon EV Max, with a size of around 60 kWh. This will give the new SUV a range of around 500 kms on a single charge. The battery will power a dual-motor setup which will allow for AWD capabilities.
The automaker was one of the first entrants in the Indian EV space with the introduction of Nexon EV back in January 2020. Then followed the Tata Nexon EV Max, the Tigor .EV, and the Tiago .EV. in a span of three years. Currently, Tata is the overwhelming leader in the segment, having tripled its sales figures in 2022 compared to the year before. Latest reports also suggest that the brand is planning to open separate showrooms for its EV lineup, and the Harrier EV could very well be the halo product to attract new consumers.
Tata may introduce a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine option that will be capable of delivering a power output of 170 bhp with 280 Nm of peak torque. While the facelift will continue to operate with its 2-litre turbo diesel unit that is good for making 170 bhp and 350 Nm torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
While Tata has not officially confirmed a launch date yet, expect the Harrier Facelift to reach showrooms by late-2023 or early-2024. Upon launch, the new SUV will rival the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio N, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Škoda Kushaq, MG Astor and VW Taigun.
