Volkswagen India has launched the Virtus Sedan; Price ranges between Rs 11.22 lakh (ex-showroom) for the baseline to Rs 17.91 (ex-showroom) for the top-spec GT Line
Three months after initially revealing its latest product, Volkswagen India has finally launched the Virtus mid-size sedan at an introductory price tag of Rs 11.22 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle is based on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform that also underpins the ‘Made in India’ Skoda Kushaq, Slavia and Volkswagen Taigun. Bookings of the sedan have been underway since March this year with production in full swing.
VW is offering the Virtus in Dynamic Line and the Performance Line. The former is offered with only a 1.0-litre TSI motor mated to either a manual or an automatic gearbox, while the latter gets only an automatic transmission with the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine.
The Dynamic Line is further divided into Comfortline, Highline and Topline. The base trim is priced at Rs 11.22 lakh (ex-showroom) while the top-spec trim level with the automatic gearbox comes in at Rs 15.72 lakh (ex-showroom).
Contrary to the Dynamic Line, the Performance Line is only available in a single GT Plus trim that will set you back by Rs 17.92 lakh (ex-showroom).
In terms of safety equipment, the car gets 6 airbags, hill hold assist, multi-collision braking and an electronic differential lock. Highlights of the four-wheeler's cabin include an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touch screen infotainment unit that comes mated to a 8 speaker sound system.
The Volkswagen Virtus rivals the likes of Honda City, Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in its segment.
Toyota and Maruti Suzuki will launch 7-seater SUVs based on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Grand Vitara, respectively; both will come with a strong hybrid powertrain.
