Maruti Suzuki aims to regain a 50 percent market share by the fiscal year 2030 with a plan to expand its SUV and MPV lineup while introducing new entry-level products. Recently, the carmaker announced it will launch four EVs instead of the previously planned six EVs by the end of this decade. In 2025, the Indo-Japanese automaker will introduce three new SUVs including the e Vitara EV, Fronx hybrid and Grand Vitara 7-seater hybrid.
The Maruti e Vitara will be the brand’s first electric offering, which will go against the Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS EV. It will be designed on the skateboard Heartect-e platform and will come with two battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh. The smaller battery, paired with the front axle mounted motors, delivers a maximum power of 143bhp and 193Nm of torque, while the bigger battery pack is good enough for 173bhp with 193Nm. In its higher-spec version, the electric Vitara will offer an MIDC-rated range of over 500km.
The dashboard layout of the new Maruti e Vitara is different from Maruti Suzuki’s other cars. It features a floating 10.25-inch screen for infotainment and instrument functionalities, rectangular AC vents with brushed silver surrounds, a 10.1-inch instrument cluster, part-leatherette upholstery, two-spoke flat bottom steering, wireless phone charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, 7 airbags, Level 2 ADAS and more.
Maruti Suzuki will introduce its own strong hybrid powertrain this year, which will be designed and developed specifically for its mass-market vehicles. The Fronx will be the first model to feature this technology, using a 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine. With the new strong hybrid tech, the 2025 Maruti Fronx is likely to deliver a mileage of over 35kmpl. At present, the compact crossover comes with the 1.2L K-Series petrol engine and two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. These engine-gearbox combos will also be carried forward to the updated lineup. For MY2025, the Maruti Fronx might also get the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system).
Aiming to tap the growing premium three-row SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki will bring in the 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara towards the end of this year. This new SUV will be longer than its donor sibling but retain the same wheelbase. Similar to the 5-seater Grand Vitara, the new Maruti three-row SUV will come with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electronic stability control, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system and many more features.
The new Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater SUV could be offered with the ADAS suite. Its overall design and styling will be identical to its 5-seater version, but a few cosmetic changes are expected such as revised front and rear bumpers, redesigned headlamps, new alloy wheels and updated taillamps.
