BYD or Build Your Dreams has recently its all-new compact electric SUV, called the BYD Atto 2 for the European markets. The electric SUV has already been confirmed for the Western markets and is likely to arrive in our market sometime this year. To be positioned below the Atto 3, the new BYD Atto 2 is likely to come as a CKD model and will be locally assembled.
In the Chinese market, the new Atto 2 is called the Yuan Up. For reference, the BYD Atto 3 is named Yuan Plus in China. Based on BYD's new third-generation electric car platform, called the e-Platform 3.0, the new BYD Atto 2 electric SUV features a front-wheel-drive layout. In the brand's global line-up, the e-SUV will slot between the Dolphin hatchback and the Atto 3 crossover.
In terms of proportions, the Atto 2 e-SUV is 4310mm in length, 1830mm in width and 1675mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2620mm. It is around 140mm smaller than the Atto 3. The styling of the new electric SUV appears identical to its siblings. It comes with a flowing LED headlights and black bar with silver trim at the front. At the back, the SUV gets intertwined tail-lights which seems inspired from BYD Dolphin's tail-lights. It comes with floating roof, cladding on the side sills and boxy design gives it a rugged SUV look.
Inside the cabin, the BYD Atto 2 gets a large 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that can rotate to offer portrait and landscape view. There is an 8.8-inch digital instrument console behind the steering wheel. The centre console houses wireless charging pad, and a crystal gear selector. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, power adjustable front seats with ventilation & heated functions, and leatherette upholstery.
The electric SUV comes equipped with BYD's lithium-iron-phosphate Blade battery. It is packed with a 45.1kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The global-spec model also gets a 32kWh battery pack. The new BYD model with 45.1kWh battery pack has a kerb weight of 1540kg.
The Atto 2 will be introduced as the brand's cheapest model in our market. It will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser EV and the Honda Elevate EV.
