Tata Motors is preparing to give a mid-life update to its popular micro SUVs including the Punch and Punch EV. Testing of the Punch facelift has already been commenced, which suggests that the launch could take place this financial year. However, the Tata Punch EV facelift is expected to arrive in 2026.
The updated Punch is likely to share design and interior changes with the Punch EV. Adding to that, the micro SUV could receive significant tech upgrades. The SUV is likely to get a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a larger digital driver’s display and a new two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo. It could also get a touch-based HVAC panel, which we have seen on the latest Tata cars.
On the exterior, the Punch facelift is likely to receive redesigned front fascia with revised slimmer headlamps, new bumpers, a new LED DRL signature and new alloys. The SUV is likely to retain its 1.2L, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 86PS and 113Nm of torque, paired to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT unit. It also gets a CNG version with dual-CNG tanks. The Tata Punch CNG could also get an AMT gearbox.
First introduced in early 2024, the Tata Punch EV will receive its first major upgrade in 2026. It is available with two battery packs - 25kWh and 35kWh, with later offering a certified range of up to 421km on a single charge. It is expected that the Punch EV facelift will receive a larger battery pack from the Nexon EV.
The electric micro SUV could also get Tata Intelligence Digital Architecture Layer, digital key, DrivePay, an ADAS suite and others. The SUV is expected to receive subtle design changes; however, major changes are expected in terms of mechanics. The electric SUV could get a premium sound system, a 360-degree camera, and new seat upholstery.
