Japanese automaker, Toyota is going through a challenging period as its sales are in constant decline amid rising competition. Honda entered the mid-sized SUV segment with the Elevate SUV in 2023. While its sales remain on lower side in India, the made-in-India Honda Elevate found strong demand in global markets, including Japan.
In order to boost sales, Honda will introduce “3 New SUVs” in India. The company will adopt a multi-fuel strategy of offering petrol, hybrid and electric options. The brand’s first electric vehicle, a new mid-sized SUV will arrive in our market in 2026.
Honda has confirmed that it will launch an all-new electric car in India in 2026. It will be designed and developed keeping the Indian market in mind. The new electric SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
Honda Cars India is planning to introduce a new flagship 7-seater SUV in the country before the end of 2027. It will be based on the brand’s all-new modular platform, codenamed PF2. This architecture will also underpin a new compact SUV. In fact, the next-gen City sedan will also be based on the new PF2 architecture.
The new 7-seater SUV will be co-developed by Honda’s Japan and Thailand R&D centres, with inputs from India. The new SUV will come with a strong hybrid engine, which is likely to be the upgraded version of the City e:HEV’s 1.5L unit. Adding to it, the SUV could also have the existing 1.5L NA petrol engine with manual and CVT gearbox options.
Details about the third SUV are yet to be revealed, but reports suggest that it could be a new sub-4 meter SUV. The new model will be based on the new PF2 modular architecture and is likely to be offered with petrol and strong hybrid petrol engines. It will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza and others.
We strongly believe that Honda will add a hybrid engine to the Elevate compact SUV. First launched in 2023, the SUV is expected to receive a mid-life update sometime next year. Honda could add the City’s hybrid engine to Elevate line-up. It will rival the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Adding to that, the new-gen Kia Seltos will also come with a strong hybrid powertrain.
