It is no secret that the 7-seater SUVs are in huge demand, which is evident from the huge success of Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and Mahindra Scorpio-N. Seeing the growing demand for larger SUVs, several brands like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Kia are planning to launch mass-market 3-row SUVs in the Indian market. In this article, we talk about the upcoming 7-seater SUVs which will directly rival the Mahindra XUV700.
Hyundai is reportedly developing an all-new 7-seater SUV, which will be positioned above the Alcazar. Internally codenamed Ni1i, the new Hyundai 7-seater SUV is likely to enter production cycle by 2027. It will be produced at Hyundai's Talegaon plant. Moreover, the new SUV will be the first Hyundai model in India to feature a petrol-hybrid powertrain. It is likely to be equipped with a 1.6L petrol-hybrid powertrain that powers the global-spec Hyundai Tucson. The new Hyundai SUV will sit on a longer wheelbase than the Tucson.
Not just Hyundai, Kia has also started working on an all-new 7-seater SUV, internally called Project MQ4i. The new SUV will be launched in our market to rival the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. This SUV will be based on the same platform that underpins the Sorento SUV on sale in global markets. The Kia 7-seater SUV will come with a petrol-hybrid powertrain with a 1.5L petrol engine. The new model will be manufactured at Kia's Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh.
Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new 7-seater SUV, which will be based on the modified Global-C platform. This platform currently underpins the Grand Vitara and the Brezza. The new SUV is reportedly to be launched in the second half of 2025. It is natural that Toyota will also have its own version of the 7-seater SUV, which will be based on the Hyryder. Both SUVs will come with a 1.5L TNGA petrol-hybrid engine and 1.5L NA petrol engine.
French automaker, Renault will launch the third-generation Duster SUV in the Indian market in 2026. The company has already confirmed that it will introduce an all-new 3-row SUV based on the Duster's platform. It is most likely to be the 7-seater version of the Bigster SUV, which has recently been launched in global markets. The new Bigster and Duster are based on Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF-B modular platform, which will be localized for the Indian market. The SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine.
Honda 7-Seater SUV
Honda is also planning to introduce multiple new SUVs in the Indian market. The company will launch a new 7-seater SUV by 2027. It will be the first Honda production car to be based on the new PF2 platform, which is compatible with both ICE and EV powertrains. The design and development of the new three-row SUV will be carried out by Honda's Japan and Thailand R&D centers, with input from Honda Cars India. The new 7-seater SUV is expected to be offered with a 1.5L strong hybrid and 1.5L NA petrol engine.
