5 Door Version of Mahindra Thar spied testing in India; Expected to be launched in 2023; Will rival the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 Door and Force Gurkha 5 Door.
Amid speculations of Mahindra & Mahindra working on a large off-roader, we have received spy shots of a 5-door Thar on test in the outskirts of Pune. Spied for the first time, the overall design of the upcoming off-roader seems to be identical to the 3-door version.
While the test car was wrapped in heavy camouflage, keen eyed viewers can see the elongated wheelbase of the new model along with a boxy, upright design. The overall silhouette will largely resemble the regular 3-door Thar but will include 2 extra doors, rear LED tail lamps and a flat hard-top roofline among other bits.
The stretched dimensions of the Thar 5 door will give the four-wheeler extra practicality in a larger boot and comfortable seating for 5. The homegrown automaker is also expected to work on the suspension of the SUV, for better handling and ride quality at higher speeds. According to some media reports, the 5-door Thar will sit on the same ladder frame chassis as the Scorpio N and is expected to become a successor to the hugely popular Armada Grand in the country.

The 5-door Thar will continue to utilise the current crop of mHawk and mStallion engines from the company. These power units will be paired to the familiar 6-speed manual or an AISIN-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions.
The four-wheeler is expected to make its grand entry in the Indian market at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo and demand a premium of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh over the existing Thar models.
The 5-door SUV will have the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 Door and Force Gurkha 5 Door as its rivals in the Indian market.
