Maruti Suzuki has officially announced to launch 2 all new SUVs in the Indian market in 2025. Sales of the long-awaited Suzuki e Vitara will begin from September and it will be retailed through NEXA premium dealership network. The second product will be a new 7-seater SUV based on Grand Vitara, which will arrive in the last quarter of this year. MSIL is also developing the Fronx facelift, which is likely to be launched in 2026.
It was speculated to be launched in 2025, which is not likely to happen. In fact, MSIL has confirmed that its hybrid engine is still under development and will take sometime before introducing in our market. The Fronx facelift is expected to be launched in 2026 with a possible debut at the next Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
Maruti Suzuki is developing a new in-house strong hybrid technology to power its mass-market cars. The brand’s hybrid tech is expected to be significantly more cost-effective than Toyota’s Atkinson cycle powertrain. The Fronx facelift will be the first Maruti to offer an in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain. It is reportedly to offer a mileage of over 35kmpl, which will be a game changer in the market.
This could also help MSIL to revive its small cars sales in the market. Not just Fronx, the Swift, Dzire, Breeza and other Maruti small cars will also receive the new hybrid engine. MSIL is also developing a new entry-level sub-4 meter MPV, which is scheduled to be launched in late 2026. This model will also receive the new hybrid engine.
The Maruti Fronx hybrid is likely to get the 1.2L Z12E petrol engine, which will act as a generator or range extender. It will be a series hybrid tech which is claimed to be cheaper than series-parallel and parallel hybrid tech. The engine will produce electricity to power an electric motor that will turn the wheels.
The new Fronx facelift is likely to receive some design changes and an upgraded cabin. On the outside, the small SUV is expected to receive new grille, tweaked bumper and revised headlamp setup, new alloys and an updated tail-lights. Inside the cabin, the Fronx facelift is likely to get a sunroof, bigger touchscreen and other features.
