In November 2024, popular OEMs such as Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors sold a number of car models. While some automakers secured the top spots in the list of best-selling cars, others seem to lose the battle due to decreasing market share. Tata Motors is one of the examples. Based on the Vahan data, Tata's market share went down by 19 percent in November 2024 compared to the last year. Moreover, the brand was beaten by MG Motors India which witnessed a growth of 23 percent in market share last month. Get more insights!
Last month, Tata Motors sold 4,196 electric cars while in November 2023, the brand delivered 5,124 units, making a clear difference of 928 units and down by 18 percent. In adddition, the market share dropped from 68 percent (in November 2023) to 49 percent (in November 2024).
Tata, the market leader, has a range of electric cars in its brand's portfolio including Curvv EV, Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Punch EV, and Tigor EV.
The total sales of Tata Motors between January to November 2024 stands at 57,084. This is an increase of 4 percent compared to 54,947 units sold the last year.
The British manufacturer, MG had impressive sales last month. Although the brand had only two EVs in its portfolio - ZS EV and Comet EV, with the launch of its third electric car, the Windsor EV, the brand gained more traction from the audience. It sold 3,126 units in November 2024, an increase of 227 percent as it sold only 956 units in the corresponding month of the last year.
A little more economic benefit was added with the innovation of the BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) program for its EVs. This attracted more customers as they only had to pay battery rent at Rs 3.5 per km (excluding the cost of the MG EV).
The total MG sales from January to November 2024 stands at 17,614 units. This is still a hike of 107 percent compared to the 8,527 units of CY2023.
