Next-Gen Kia Sonet in the Works – Bigger Tech, New Platform, Hybrid Planned

New Sonet coming in 2027 Bigger screens and ADAS expected Hybrid version in the works

Kia is working on the second-generation Sonet for India, and it is expected to launch in 2027. The compact SUV, which first arrived in 2020 and received a facelift in 2024, is now set for a full update.

The new model will bring changes in design, features and overall performance, making it more competitive in its segment.

New Platform Brings Major Changes

The next-generation Sonet will move to a new platform, replacing the current one. It will be based on the same architecture as the Kia Syros.

This new platform supports better electronics, including over-the-air updates and remote diagnostics. It is also expected to improve overall build quality and safety.

Kia may also focus on improving rear seat space, which has been a concern in the current model.

Familiar Engines, Hybrid in the Pipeline

The new Sonet is expected to continue with its current engine options. These include a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

However, Kia is also working on a strong hybrid version for the Sonet. This hybrid setup is not expected at launch and could arrive later, likely around 2028 or 2029.

Bigger Screens and More Features

The next-gen Sonet could get larger screens inside the cabin. The current 10.25-inch displays may be replaced with bigger 12.3-inch units.

Kia may also introduce advanced driver assistance features. The new model could get Level 2 ADAS with radar and camera support, improving safety and driving convenience.

Better Safety Expected

With the new platform, safety is likely to improve as well. The structure will use more high-strength materials, which could help the SUV perform better in crash tests.

For reference, models like the Kia Syros and Hyundai Venue have already scored well in Bharat NCAP tests.

Ready to Take on Rivals

The updated Sonet will continue to compete with popular SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

With better space, more features and a future hybrid option, Kia aims to make the Sonet an even stronger contender in the compact SUV segment.
