Mahindra XUV500 was first launched in 2011 and helped the brand strengthen its presence in India. As Mahindra’s flagship SUV, it was popular for its stylish design, premium features, and strong performance. However, with the introduction of the more advanced XUV700 SUV, customer interest shifted, leading to a drop in XUV500 sales and its eventual discontinuation.
At the launch of the XUV700 in August 2021, Mahindra announced that the XUV500 name would return. The upcoming XUV500 is expected to be a compact SUV, positioned between the XUV 3XO and XUV700 in the brand’s lineup.
The upcoming Mahindra XUV500 will feature a fresh design, making it look different from its predecessor. The SUV is expected to have a bold, boxy stance with flared wheel arches, an upright A-pillar, and a slightly sloping roofline. It will also get sleek LED headlights with DRLs, a redesigned front grille and bumper, and an updated hood, giving it a more modern and dynamic look.
The upcoming Mahindra XUV500 is expected to come equipped with a host of premium features, including:
Large Touchscreen Infotainment System for an enhanced user experience
Premium Sound System for immersive audio quality
Electric Sunroof adding a touch of luxury
Six Airbags ensuring enhanced safety
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) for improved driving assistance
Radar-Based ADAS Features such as:
Autonomous Emergency Braking
Adaptive Cruise Control
Lane Departure Warning
Frontal Collision Warning
These features will enhance both safety and convenience, making the XUV500 a strong contender in its segment.
The new XUV500 is likely to be a 5-seater SUV built on a modern front-wheel-drive platform. It is expected to be around 4.3 to 4.4 meters long and will compete with SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate. Under the hood, the XUV500 could offer a 1.5L turbo diesel engine and a 1.2L direct injection turbo petrol engine, along with a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Both manual and automatic transmission options are expected.
