Tata Sierra, Harrier and Safari to Get 1.5L turbo Petrol Engine - More Details On Launch

Tata Motors is preparing to launch multiple new SUVs, including the Sierra and Punch facelift. Adding to it, the company plans to launch new and existing SUVs with a new petrol engine. Tata Motors will introduce the new Sierra, Harrier and Safari SUVs with a new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine.

Harrier and Safari Petrol to come first

Harrier and Safari petrol launch

If media reports are to be believed, the new Tata 1.5L turbo petrol engine will first offered in the Harrier and Safari SUVs. Adding to it, the new petrol-powered SUVs could be launched by November 2025. The new 1.5L TGDi direct injection turbo-petrol engine is capable of producing 168bhp at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 280Nm between 2,000 and 3,500rpm. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Tata Sierra ICE

Tata Motors will launch the ICE version of the Tata Sierra lifestyle SUV in the first quarter of 2026, between January and March. The SUV will be offered with two new petrol engines, including a 1.5L, naturally-aspirated and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine will be offered on the lower-spec variants.

The turbo petrol engine is the same unit, which will also power the Harrier and Safari. However, the Sierra’s engine could offer a different state of tune. The powertrain is expected to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox option.

The diesel version is likely to get the 2.0L turbo petrol engine that produces 170hp and 350Nm of torque. Tata Motors has already acquired the license to manufacture and tweak this engine to suit different types of vehicles. The Sierra could get a slightly de-tuned version of this engine.
