Hyundai to launch Bayon midsize SUV by March 2027 New compact electric SUV arriving this fiscal to challenge Nexon EV Next-gen Creta and i20 to launch in 2027
Hyundai Motor India is known for offering “feature-first” mass-market vehicles since its introduction in the Indian market in 1996. Facing tough competition from the likes of Mahindra and Tata Motors, the South Korean giant is preparing its most aggressive product blitz yet. In a bid to regain lost market share, Hyundai will introduce 4 mass-market vehicles, including 3 SUVs and a new hatchback.

Hyundai has confirmed to launch an all-new midsize SUV in the country before the end of this financial year. It is expected to be the next-generation Hyundai Bayon, which will measure around 4.2 meters in length. The new SUV will be positioned between the Venue and Creta, and will be a direct rival to the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. While the current model is a crossover, the next-gen Hyundai Bayon will carry a more SUV-ish design with an upright stance.
It is expected to feature a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox. The SUV will be the first Hyundai measuring above 4 meters in length to get a CNG powertrain. It is likely to get a dual-CNG setup. Hyundai is also developing an all-new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which will be hybrid ready.

Hyundai has started testing its upcoming compact electric SUV, which will be a localised model challenging the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO. It will be designed, engineered and manufactured in India specifically for Indian buyers. Codenamed HE1i, the new Hyundai compact EV will be built on the brand’s affordable E-GMP (K) platform that supports 800V fast charging. Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu will serve as production for the EV. Aiming to achieve competitive pricing, Hyundai will source localized battery packs from Exide.
The new compact electric SUV is expected to be offered with 42kWh standard range and 49kWh long range options. It will come with dual 10.25-inch displays for touchscreen infotainment and instrument functionalities, automatic AC, a 360-degree surround view camera with blind spot monitoring, LEVEL 2 ADAS and others.

Hyundai will launch the next-generation Creta in the country in 2027. Testing of the next-gen Hyundai Creta has already been started in India as well as in Korea. It will be based on the new K3 platform that also underpins the new Kia Seltos. The spy images suggest that the styling of the new Creta is heavily inspired by the new Hyundai Palisade, which is also heading to India by 2028.
The SUV appears longer and wider with a flatter bonnet and a more vertical front fascia. It is likely to ride on a longer wheelbase, around 2690mm, and the rear overhang seems slightly extended, suggesting a roomier cabin. The previous spy images reveal that the next-gen Creta interiors will borrow heavily from Hyundai’s bigger SUVs, including the Ioniq EV series and Palisade.
It is expected to be offered with 4 engine options, including a 1.5-litre NA petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel and a 1.5-litre Strong Hybrid. The strong hybrid engine is likely to be based on the 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a small battery pack and a single electric motor. Hyundai will be targeting a fuel efficiency of around 25kmpl.

Hyundai is developing the next generation i20 hatchback, which will serve as the entry-level model for the Korean brand in global markets. It is expected to be revealed this year, while launch likely in 2027. The Korean brand has enlisted the expertise of Continental to make adjustments to its gasoline engines. The next-gen Hyundai i20 will be longer, wider and shorter than the existing model.
The cabin will receive massive changes in the form of tech, quality and fit & finish. It will feature a digital driver’s display, and a large, curved 12.3-inch screen for the infotainment unit. The hatchback will also get ADAS tech. The engine options will include a 1.0L, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol and a 1.2L 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol.
