Japanese automaker, Toyota has recently launched the Fortuner MHEV in the Indian market. This year, the company has not introduced any brand new model in the country; However, things will change in the near future. Toyota is planning to launch 3 brand new SUVs in our market over the period of the next 1 year.
At the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, Toyota showcased a wide range of cars and some of them are slated to arrive in our market. Let’s talk in detail about the top 3 upcoming Toyota cars in India in the next 1 year -
Toyota will launch the new Land Cruiser Prado in our market before the end of this financial year. To be positioned below the LC300, the new LC Prado or LC250 will come as a CBU model. In the global markets, the Prado gets a 2.8-litre diesel engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This engine produces 204hp and 500Nm of torque. In select markets, the SUV also gets a 2.4L petrol-hybrid powertrain.
The new Prado is expected to be launched in our market in late 2025 or early 2026. The Land Cruiser 300 in India costs around 2.31 crore, e-showroom. We expect the new LC Prado to carry a price tag of around Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 1.8 crore, ex-showroom. The SUV will rival the Land Rover Defender.
Toyota is testing an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will be sold alongside the existing Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It was speculated to be a 7-seater derivative of the Hyryder; however, new media reports suggest that Toyota could follow Maruti’s strategy of introducing a 5-seater mass-market SUV. This new model could be positioned below the Hyryder and will come as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Maruti’s version is rumoured to be called the Escudo and will be manufactured at its new manufacturing unit in Kharkhoda, Haryana. The new Toyota SUV is expected to be launched in 2026; however, official details are yet to be revealed. It is expected to be offered with 1.5L NA petrol and a 1.5L petrol-hybrid engine.
Toyota will finally enter the Indian EV space with the Urban Cruiser EV, which was showcased as a concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It was scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2025; however, a shortage of rare-earth could impact its production. We expect the new Urban Cruiser EV will arrive in our market sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.
The Urban Cruiser EV will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat based plant and will also be exported to Japan and other international markets. The electric SUV will be offered with two battery variants - a 49kWh and a 61kWh - paired to a 143hp and 173hp front-axle mounted electric motors, respectively. Both offers 193Nm of peak torque.
