Expected to be the Ai3 SUV First petrol-only Hyundai SUV in India Underpinned by same platform as the Grand i10 Nios
Following the launch of the All-New Verna, Hyundai Motor India is now gearing up to introduce its all-new SUV in the country. The brand recently released the first official teaser of the upcoming model. While the teaser hardly reveals anything, it is expected to be the much-awaited Ai3 micro-SUV, slated to go on sale by mid-2023. We take a closer look.

According to latest media reports, Hyundai has already started testing the New Ai3 in India. It will be the brand’s smallest SUV in the country. While the Ai3 will be similar in size to the Casper sold globally, the India-spec SUV will have a different design.
Speaking of the exterior design, leaked pictures of the upcoming Ai3 reveal the micro-SUV will have a body design with an upright stance. The front end will offer split headlight setup with LED DRLs featuring an ‘H’ pattern. The vehicle looks quite tall in profile with its squared-off edges, upright windowline, and flared wheel arches. Towards the rear, the SUV provides unique and angular taillights that are likely to be connected by an LED light bar.
The micro-SUV will be based on Hyundai’s K1 platform, which also underpins the Grand i10 Nios and Aura. Mechanically, the upcoming SUV is likely to be offered with the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated Kappa petrol engine as the hatchback and the compact-sedan. The power plant delivers a maximum power output of 82 bhp with 144 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai is not expected to offer a diesel option with the Ai3, making it the brand’s first petrol-only SUV in India.
The Korean automaker is expected to launch the Ai3 in India by August 2023, with the production of the model starting in July. The micro-SUV will rival the likes of the Tata Punch and Citroen C3 in its segment.
